So my first question is how does the output compare to the BMPCC OG? That camera is getting harder to get and it was always a bit fragile. If this produces a good enough image with strong color information, then it might be a worthy BMPCC like offering (but odds are it won't have the color science magic of the BMPCC).

As a reminder, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has a 1" sensor and the image is pretty nice all things considered. As long as you can handle its wide focal length you could actually get away with using it for a lot of things.

There is also a new wireless mic system by GoPro that works with these new cameras. This was always a pain point as DJI had a much better total package here. Hopefully this closes the gap.

It is really frustrating to read the comment sections and see people completely missing the point of the new Mission 1 ILS. So many people are judging it as just a downgraded GoPro or a weirdly flawed mirrorless setup. They are not seeing it for the highly specialized powerhouse it actually is.

If you are looking for a standard, pocketable, waterproof, head mounted action cam, the standard Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro exist for exactly that reason (or many offerings from DJI, etc). But if you judge the ILS by those same metrics, you are totally missing the target audience.

Here is what the Mission 1 ILS actually is. It is a premium, complementary B cam or C cam.

Think about the specs. It shoots 8k60, 4k240, and 1080p960 with confirmed little to no overheating. There is practically nothing else on the market delivering this kind of performance at a similar price point (the BMPCC is more cinematic but limited to 30FPS and can only be found used and is somewhat fragile). Plus, it features a non proprietary mount designed specifically so you can adapt almost any glass to it.

People are just trying to force a specialized tool into the wrong box. Here is the reality behind the most common complaints I keep seeing.

When people say they cannot think of a use case, I just think of drones, car mounts, scientific slow motion, or anywhere you need a lightweight mounted camera.

Then there are complaints that it is not portable and will not fit on a helmet. It is definitely portable, just not pocketable. If you need a traditional head mount, buy the standard Mission 1.

People also complain that the crop factor ruins the wide field of view. But you can adapt wide lenses. For example, the Laowa 7.5mm gives a 20mm equivalent. If you need that classic ultra wide GoPro look, just use the Pro model.

I see comments saying that no autofocus is stupid. But mounted B cams are set and forget. Manual focus is the industry norm for this specific use case.

What about it not being waterproof? Dive cases will inevitably be made by independent companies, but aquatic action is precisely what the Mission 1 Pro was built for.

Some people say to just get a BMPCC or FX3 instead. Neither of those cameras can shoot 8k60 or 4k240 at this size and price point. The ILS is a complementary tool, not a main camera replacement.

Finally, people complain that native Micro Four Thirds lenses will not work well. The mount was chosen for its unparalleled adaptability, not just to lock you into the native lens ecosystem.

As usual, the loudest complaints are coming from a minority who lack the critical thinking to see beyond their own specific needs. For the filmmakers and creators who actually understand its purpose, the Mission 1 ILS is an incredible piece of technology. The target audience is going to love it, and the content produced with it is going to speak for itself.
