We know an update has to be coming for the Mac Pro because very few people are interested in the current one that still features Intel processors.

All the information we've been able to gleam points to the 2023 Mac Pro featuring either the M2 Ultra or the new, rumored M2 Extreme chip with 48-core CPU, 160-core GPU cores, and up to 384GBs of RAM. The M2 extreme option may bring tears to the eye both on performance and price. There is also talk of a 40-core CPU so it's not clear which chip we will end up getting.

  • Mac Pro Tower, M2 Ultra, 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, 32-core Neural Engine, 64GB Unified Memory, 1TB storage: $6,999
  • Mac Pro Rack, M2 Ultra, 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, 32-core Neural Engine, 64GB Unified Memory, 1TB storage: $7,499
And of course upgrades are available:
  • M2 Ultra, 24-core CPU, 76-core GPU for $1,000
  • 128GB Unified Memory for $800
  • 192GB Unified Memory for $1,600
  • 8TB SSD for $2,200
Sadly, the PCIe bandwidth is shared. Unless you need the internal PCIe expansion this will probably be a hard pass.
