Some new information has been released about Apple's upcoming headset:
- Good aesthetics and lightweight, premium materials (well, we expect this from Apple, but we hope this doesn't raise the price too much)
- Waist-mounted battery
- No haptic feedback
- Quick switching between virtual and normal reality
- User changeable headbands (like Apple does with their watchbands)
- Sensors to accommodate/adjust to the interpupillary distance of the user
- 120 degree field of view
- H2 chip and (new?) advanced SOC
- Can run 2D iOS apps
- Issues with Bluetooth headphones (needs an ultra-low-latency mode)
- Video conferencing is an emphasized use case for this headset
- Intentional efforts to minimize the amount of the user's face that is obstructed
- Two 4K OLED displays (one for each eye)
- Eye tracking
- LiDAR scanners
- $3499 possible price point (ouch, we hope this wrong)
Unfortunately we were right about the price in our January 3rd, 2023 post. But not to worry. Subsequent generations will come down in price.
