Rumors have begun for the Canon EOS R1. The following is the unconfirmed information that we have heard:
  • $7,999 USD
  • 75MP stacked sensor
  • Aims to dethrone the Nikon Z9 and Sony A1
  • 8K video and advanced video features (but non a C-line camera)
  • Q3 2023 release
We do not trust this megapixel number at all as we have never seen a part/sensor that matches those specifications.
 
This camera is expected to be the spiritual successor of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III.

We've received only limited and confusing (contradictory) information about this camera such as:
  • $8999
  • 15% larger than Canon R3
  • Beautiful and large screen (3.8"?)
  • Only slightly better resolution than the R5
  • Exceptional EVF
None of these are verified. Stay tuned.
 
So that previous hint of only slightly better resolution than the R5 may turn out incorrect. More recent reports indicate less resolution than the R5 and possibly only 6K or 7K video.

Canon has now registered the camera under the number of DS126922 and we're all hoping this is the R1 and not some APS-C camera.
