The Nikon Z8 is thought to be in development with a possible announcement coming in early 2023 and the actual release in spring of 2023. It's not clear if this will be a Z9-light or a D850/Z7 successor.

The only thing that's clear at this point is that Nikon is keeping a tight lid on details about this camera and no knowledge of its specifications have made it out so far.

We still don't have specifications. We're told it will compete in the higher megapixel market segment (i.e., against the Sony A7RV and the Can R5 Mark II). It appears that this may be released in quarter 2 of 2023.

The Nikon Z8 turned out to be what we all expected, a baby Z9 with most of the same features:
  • 45.7MP FX-Format Stacked CMOS Sensor
  • Lightweight Design, 30% Smaller than Z9
  • 8.3K 60p N-RAW, 4.1K 60p ProRes RAW
  • 8K30p and 4K120p Video, 10-Bit Internal
  • Up to 20 fps Raw, 30 fps JPEG Shooting
  • 493-Point AF, AI-Based Subject Detection
  • Blackout-Free Real Live Viewfinder
  • 3.2" 4-Axis Tilting Touchscreen LCD
  • CFx Type B & SD Memory Card Slots
  • 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • $4000
