The Sony A7R IV was released in 2019 so many feel that that it's successor is overdue and would have been here already were it not for supply chain issues.

An announcement of this camera may be coming October 26th of this year. We will find out soon enough.

So far it's not clear if:
  • The sensor is the same as the previous generation or new
  • How much better the video features will be
  • What the main reason to upgrade is if there isn't a change in sensor and/or resolution
 
Updated specifications:
  • Same sensor as the previous generation (61MP)
  • 8K 24P (Cropped) and 4K 60 (down-sampled and no crop)
  • Improved IBIS (8 stops claimed)
  • More video features including S Cinetone
  • Significantly improved auto-focus including new AI capabilities
  • $3,999 (not confirmed)
 
Some new information has come in:
  • AI assisted advanced automatic white balance
  • 693 phase detection points and improved autofocus
  • Improved EVF
  • $3800 USD price (approximately -- should be within a few hundred dollars)

  • Improved AF (AI Autofocus)
  • In-body stabilization rated at up to 8.0EV
  • Continuous shooting at up to 10fps with flash (JPEG or Lossy compressed Raw)
  • 8K/24p or 4K/60p video (both with 1.24x crop)
  • Full-width 4K up to 30p
  • 10-bit 4:2:2 video options, including S-Log3, S-Cinetone and HLG
  • Fully-articulated rear screen on tilt-out cradle
  • Focus bracketing mode (with stacking via computer)
  • WiFi
  • Multi-shot pixel shift high resolution mode with
  • Webcam mode
  • $3899
  • Finally improved resolution of back screen (3.2" 4-Axis Multi-Angle Touchscreen LCD)
  • Dual CFexpress Type A/SD Card Slots
  • 4K 16-Bit Raw Output
