The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is out soon and this a camera we’ve been waiting for. Having owned and loved the Pocket 3, I have to say that the launch of the Pocket 4 is bittersweet. It is better, but not so much better we’d tell owners of the 3 to upgrade 4. It’s an iterative improvement. Better low light, dynamic range, and slow motion. But in a lot of contexts the footage will look similar or the same. I guess I was hoping for a bit more, enough to make owners of the 3 feel a strong desire to upgrade. The 4 is objectively better but don’t feel you have to get it. The 3 remains an amazing camera.
Key features:
- 4K/240fps slow motion (this is double of the Pocket 3)
- Updated 1-inch CMOS 50MP sensor with a claimed 14-stop of dynamic range
- 10-Bit D-Log (The 3 has 10-Bit D-Log-M which is a less robust codec)
- 107GB of internal storage
- New hardware buttons
- Better digital zooming
- $499 (this is a steal)
If you can live with the wide focal length this might be the only camera you need for certain video purposes.
