Hasselblad 907X & CFV 100C Medium Format Camera

Unlike most digital cameras, the Hasselblad in question is both a CFV 100C medium format digital back and a 907X camera body.  The back distills a lot of what was in the X2D 100C to a modular component that is compatible with other Hasselblad V-Series camera bodies as well.  The combination of the two will set you back $8200 which is only a few thousand more than some of the top end full-frame mirrorless cameras.

It’s nice to see new development in the medium format sector.  We’re hoping it grows and more players enter it.

Google Pixel 9 Design Leak

It’s an okay looking phone.  The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones are expected this year.  We are expecting a possible announcement or teaser at the September’s Made By Google event and then possible sale of these phones in October.

There is still lots of time before launch so the information that we have now is quite preliminary.

But keep in mind this is within the context of trying to create a budget Android phone with attractive specifications, including:

RED Digital Cinema V-RAPTOR [X] 8K VV

This small cinema camera is targeted at a niche audience with its $30,000 price tag.  It’s still good news for all of those who produce video as technology, given enough time, tends to trickle down and become more affordable.  An affordable full-frame global shutter sensor may come our way given enough years and demand.  Those who shoot RED will likely find this camera interesting.  They’re stating this is the worlds’ first large format global shutter camera.

This camera is an achievement and RED should be praised for that.  The previous Raptor’s were and still are excellent cameras, and perhaps more will become available used now.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D Reviews Begin to Roll In

If you already have an AMD AM4 platform system or you’re trying to build a good budget gaming system then the $250 AMD Ryzen 5700X3D is a strong contender.  It beats out an Intel i5-13600KF on gaming benchmarks.

The 5800X3D costs 20% plus more and has a 15% performance advantage or so over the 5700X3D in gaming.  For most people’s use cases the 5700X3D should be more than fine and they won’t notice that 15% less.

It is a strange release this far into the AM4’s life cycle but we are not complaining!

OCTOPUS16 Super 16 Cinema Camera

Octopus Cinema has a camera in development that looks amazing to us.  There hasn’t been a good 16mm digital cinema camera for a while since Blackmagic abandoned that sensor size and let’s not talk about the Bolex D16.  And the price is said to be under $1000.  The unfortunate reality here is that this product is in development and may never see the light of day.  But here’s to hoping.

OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-600mm f/5-6.3 IS Lens Micro Four Thirds Lens

The OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-600mm f/5-6.3 IS Lens Micro Four Thirds Lens (say that three times fast) is not what we were hoping for.  First, it’s massive.  One major selling point of Micro Four Thirds gear is the smaller bodies and much smaller lenses.  Secondly, this isn’t a lens designed for Micro Four Thirds but rather a repurposed full-frame lens from Sigma.  Third, OM SYSTEM, what were you thinking charging $2700.  And lastly, the image quality isn’t even that great.  This only makes sense for people who prioritize reach above all else.  Personally I keep meaning to get the Nikon to m43 smart adapter so I can see how well my Nikon 500mm PF will do on m43.

Let’s have more reviews come in before we make a final determination.  But for now we’d be lying if we didn’t say we were disappointed.

Rabbit R1

The $200 Rabbit R1 is getting all of the hype, but is it just hype?  There have been mixed responses to this device with some people saying it’s useless and others saying it’s the way of the future.  Their keynote certainly wasn’t reassuring.

Rabbit makes it clear that the R1 is not a phone replacement.  It’s a pocketable AI assistant.  Gee, that kind of sounds like what phones can do though, doesn’t it?

Despite all of this talk about large language models (LLMs), rabbit introduces a new term: large action model.  It’s supposed do things for you.  Make reservations.  Book a flight.  Make recommendations.  Get a recipe.  It’s trying to go one step further than current LLMs and act on the information provided.

We do have to ultimately praise Rabbit.  They made a relatively affordable device that at the very least with influence phone makers to give us more AI functionality in our phones.
